Writing in Reception.

In KG and Reception we begin to teach children early skills in writing. We call it 'free-writing' and the children learn to develop a love for putting pen to paper.
Writing is a very skilled process and children need to be guided through many processes in order to 'write'. We start with mark-making, then move onto forming letters. As the children learn phonics they begin to represent letter sounds in their writing. Later they start to spell easy words.
Here are some snaps from today's writing lesson where the children had to draw and label the characters from Goldilocks and The Three Bears.

The children each have a writing book. The pages are plain so that the children are not restricted to writing on lines.

We give the children felt-pens so that can write with more control. The colours are attractive and the children draw freely.

The children can talk to each other about their writing and share ideas. This helps with communication.
Look at the concentration on their little faces!!
