We had an excellent first day and it has been
a pleasure getting to know all my students better. The students have been
settling in well and have been open and kind to their new classmates, Ryan and
Eouy.
We had a discussion about what the students think that a teacher should be, followed up with what they think a teacher should be. This helped to set the groundwork for creating our classroom agreement. The students gave ideas for our classroom rules and we chose the best ones together. We voted on them and we will sign our names to the agreement tomorrow. This helps give ownership to the students for the behavior expectations in the classroom.
We read "David Goes to School", a story about a boy who has trouble following rules on the first day and made cut out pictures of David holding our classroom agreement.
We had a surprise assembly today to show students our new space for assemblies which will be held each Friday. Since the space is much smaller, the students will be able to hear each other much better for presentations, awards, songs and skits.
Kru Gam and I are looking forward to a fun and exciting
year with the Y2R class and I hope that the students are excited as well!
