Our First Week of School

It has been a great and busy start to the term in year two!  We have been lucky enough to welcome two more students, Chandni and Jacky.

We spent a lot of time getting to know each other again and what we enjoy doing. After I shared many of my personal objects from home, many students were very excited to bring in their own items to share and talk about in front of the class.

We also created a class-web, where wrote about what they like to do and drew lines to find out what they have in common with each other.

The students enjoyed reading a four part series of one of my favorite stories from my childhood- "East of the Sun and West of the Moon" and choosing their favorite part for discussion and painting.

We did some writing activities as well to get the students talking about themselves as well as in the habit of writing again. We did some work on talking about what everyone did over the summer as well as a self-introduction.

Students also learnt about how to work effectively in a group. We discussed the roles of a Leader, A Recorder, A Thinker and A presenter and how all members of a group are responsible for the final product. We also worked together as a class to resolve any conflicts of interest or ideas which came up in the groups and learned how to fairly conduct a vote in choosing a table name or questions for our "Wonder Wall".
