WEEK 2: August 29th- September 2nd

The week we have gotten a start on our curriculum and getting to know the different subjects we will be learning about.

I'm glad to see I have many students who are very interested in books and reading. Whenever they have a spare moment I can find them looking through our class library or reading books in the Reading Corner.

This week we also went to the computer lab on the third floor where students used computers to search the internet using "RexKid" a safe search engine to find pictures about being healthy and paste them to a word document.

This is part of our introduction to our "Health and Well-being" Unit of Inquiry.

In English we were learning about instructions, their features and how to make or give good instructions.

Students practiced giving oral instructions to each other for a task.

They ordered instructions and requirements for washing hands.

They also followed instructions for making bread, which was a lot of messy fun!

Y2 Weekly Update:
Week 2 2016

This Week

Next Week

English
We have begun our work on ‘instructions’ and what they are. The students had to understand what an instruction is and what the key features of instructions are.
  • Continuing work on ‘instructions’. Student will write their own instructions using all key features.
Math
This week we recapped our understanding of number bonds to 10 and how these facts can help us answer addition and subtraction questions. For example, if we know  5 + 5 = 10, then 10 - 5 = 5.
  • Double numbers to double 15, use patterns in number bonds, use number bonds to solve more difficult additions, to subtract and to solve additions bridging 10
Inquiry
This week, we continued our tuning in phase of the inquiry cycle - to really consolidate the students understanding of health and wellbeing - this included painting pictures, creating questions about what we wanted to know and to understand some of the important elements of health such as diet and exercise.
  • We will begin to find out more information about health and wellbeing in order to answer some of the questions we have and to expand our knowledge on these areas.
Notices and Events
  • Dropping off students - please remember that parents can drop students off at the front doors of the primary building and the students must take themselves to class. We appreciate the support of parents with helping the students to be more independent.
