Term 2- week 5: January 30th- Feb. 3rd 2017

Students have enjoyed learning about Fantasy stories this week and are looking forward to writing their own.  We have just finished our forces inventions today! We will set up a display soon in the Primary hallway so you can have a look if you happen to pass by or during KS1 open day.
Open day will be next Thursday the 9th of February from 8-9am.  We will be doing some painting and crafts – so remember to wear something that you don’t mind getting a little paint on.

Students have been working hard to complete their inventions. They put them together then have a test to see how they work. There are often problems with how well the invention works- so students need to be thinkers to try and solve the issues to make their inventions work better.

We have been learning about the elements of a fantasy story in English.  We had a special activity where students had to write a different ending to our story in a skit format.  Here the students are acting out their alternative endings.

 Happy Birthday Ryan!

Y2 Weekly Update:
Week 5 2017

This Week
Next Week
English
This week we began looking at fantasy stories and their features. We looked closely at the story ‘The Wizard’s assistant’ and had the students discussing the story, the characters, making new characters and role playing how they would solve the problem from the story.
·         We will use our new knowledge of fantasy stories to create a new character and begin fantasy stories.
Maths
We looked at doubling and halving numbers at the start of the week. We then progressed to simple fractions with the students beginning to understand how to represent halves and quarters as numbers, e.g. ½, ¼, and how to place them on a number line.
·         Count in 2s, 5s and 10s to solve multiplication problems and find specified multiples;
·         introduce the × sign; record the 2, 5 and 10 times-tables;
·         investigate multiplications with the same answer;
·         write multiplications to go with arrays
Inquiry
We completed building our simple machine inventions using recyclable materials. Each machine had to use a force and move in some way.
·         We will carry out peer reviews of our machines according to criteria, e.g. did they show a clear use of forces? Did our machines work? Were the materials chosen appropriate?
