Term 3- week 1: April 18th-21st 2017

    Everyone has had a very nice start to term three. We have begun to tune in on our new Inquiry subject, which evolves about taking care of our environment and the interdependence between living things. Next week we will begin to teach them new material and guide them in research.

     We have had a fun week in math, learning about weight and capacity using scales and graduated cylinders to measure objects and water.

Students enjoy practicing their math skills to play games during Math Quest time.

Everyone  planted their own seed to grow a plant for Earth day

This week we have begun our new topic of dialogue and plays. The students have been role playing what characters from stories would say to each other, and how we can show this dialogue in speech bubbles and by using speech marks.
·         Continuing our work on dialogues and plays by looking at some playscripts
Maths
This week we have been focusing on measurement. We have been weighing objects using units of measurement such as kg and g. We also looked at capacity and to understand the difference between liters and milliliters.
·         Double multiples of 10 and 5 (answers less than 100);
·         double 2-digit numbers ending in 1, 2, 3 or 4 (answers less than 100);
·         find a quarter of numbers up to 40 by halving twice; begin to find 3/4 of numbers;
·         find 1/2 1/4 and 1/3 of amounts (sharing); spot patterns and make predictions when finding a third of numbers
Inquiry
This week we began the tuning in to our next theme of sharing the planet.  This week we have just been allowing the students to discover what they already know about living things, habitats and the interdependence of all living things.

Central idea
The interdependence between living things
affects their survival.
Lines of inquiry
·         The needs of living things to survive
·         Ways living things depend on each other
·         Our responsibility towards living things

·         Next week we begin the finding out phase of inquiry and will research answers and information that we will need to extend our knowledge.
