Term 3- week 2: April 24th-28th 2017

We had a great start to our “Sharing the Planet” Unit in Inquiry class.  Students are very interested in how all living things are connected and the different habitats they live in. We have also looked at pollution and how it can effect this fragile balance.

Here students are planting and taking care of their seeds. Everyone is checking on them each day to see their progress.

We would also like to welcome our new student Ohm Ohm to our class!! It's great to have your Ohm Ohm!

Students have been showing great progress in Math lately easily completing addition and subtraction word problems.  I have sent home three pages of math for students to review over the weekend.  Here students are practicing fractions and their relationship with division using cubes.

We had a nice time exploring the natural environments around our school campus today! Everyone drew pictures of what they saw and what kind of animals they might expect to find there. Next week we will include the possible Food Webs and Food Chains in these habitats.

We even found some pollution that the students helped to clean up as well. Good job !

Y2 Weekly Update:
T3:Week 2 2017

This Week
Next Week
English
This week we worked on adding detail to our writing. Students have to describe a single event with as many details as possible. We also worked on how to add speech to a story by using quotation marks.
·         We will look at playscripts and their key features.
Math
This week we reviewed doubling and halving at the start. The students used their understanding of basic doubles, e.g. 10 + 10 = 20 & 2 + 2 = 4, to solve the doubling of more complicated numbers e.g, double 12. The students had to double 10, then double 2 and combine the answers for to solve the question.

We then revisited fractions, and consolidated our understanding of 1/2 , 1/4 and 1/3
·         We will complete assessments on the work we have covered from the last assessment up to now.
Inquiry
This week the students were finding out more about habitats. We looked carefully and the different connections between living things and their connections with the sun and water.
·         We will start to plan our posters describing the form, function and connections of a habitat
