WEEK 7: October 3rd-7th 2016

  Another great week for Year Two! We had another guest story teller join us on Tuesday to share a funny story about a flying dog.

This week we finished up our Inquiry projects where students showed what they know about a certain area of Healthy Living. Some students chose to work in groups others independently. Students could either make a poster or a short skit they wrote themselves. Students chose subjects ranging from healthy eating to staying fit with exercise.

This Week

Next Week

English
This week, we began our unit on poetry and learn about rhyming words through a variety of activities.
  • continue to look at poems - shape poems, acrostic poems
  • We will look at rhyming couplets and try to make some of our very own.
Math
This week we were looking at ordinal numbers and how they are written. We were then building on our knowledge of place value by working with money and finding totals of a group of 10p and 1p coins. We then explored this further by asking what would happen to the total is we added or subtracted 10p.
  • Add and subtract 10, 20 and 30 to any 2-digit number;
  • Add and subtract 11, 21, 12 and 22 to any 2-digit number;
  • Solve addition and subtractions by counting on and back in 10s then in 1s;
  • solve addition and subtraction problems using concrete and pictorial representations
Inquiry
This week we were going further and the students presented their knowledge either through shows, books or posters.
  • We will be taking action by growing some of our own fruits and vegetables, also we will reflect on the unit and what we have done well, what we could do better next time.
