I have been happy to see so many students’
growing interest in reading books and completing book reports! Keep up the
great work everyone. This week we also
began our newest Unit of inquiry about storytelling and creativity in
communication.
This week we were lucky to have both Zoe and Paimok's birthdays! Everyone enjoyed a special afternoon snack with ice cream cake.
In response to requests to APPs which can be played on phones or ipads, I have found a few - here are the top 5 Apps for Y2 according to "www.theimoms.com" I will continue to look for more apps next week.

We began the week with
writing about our holidays, before moving onto fairy tales. We looked at the
story of the 3 Billy Goats Gruff. First we sequenced the story and then
looked at the characters and what they would say or do.

This week we’ve been
using 100 Squares to add and subtract 10 from 2 digit numbers. We’ve been
thinking about how 2 digit numbers are made from 10’s and 1’s and used bead
strings to help us see how many groups of 10 and how many 1’s are in a
number.
|
·
Count in 2s, 5s and 10s
from zero; Count in multiples of 2p, 5p and 10p;
·
Number sequences of 2s,
5s and 10s;
·
Find the totals of coins
and ways to make an amount;
·
Use coins to make given
amounts of money

Inquiry

This week, we began
tuning into our new theme of how we express ourselves. The central idea of
the unit is ‘The art of storytelling enables people to communicate
creatively’. So we began at looking at the different ways that we share
stories, for example a radio play or a puppet show. We looked at the
similarities and differences as well as discussing which ones we have
experienced before.
