Term 2- week 2: January 9th- 13th 2017

As part of our unit of inquiry, students used items from our classroom to try and make a lever to lift something heavy. We discovered that when the fulcrum of the lever is closer to the item- it is much easier to lift!!

Students used their knowledge on money and number bonds to 20 to give each other change from items that they pretended to buy from each other.

We had an early morning visit from the school cat NamChom.

Students investigated muscular forces by pushing, pulling, rolling, twisting, stretching, squashing and poking play-dough into creatures, then writing instruction on how they made them.

Students tried to make their own experiment using cars and ramps while trying to conduct the experiment in a fair way.

Y2 Weekly Update:
Week 2 2017

This Week
Next Week
English
This week we continued to look at features of non-fiction books. The students looked at how table of contents work - which included creating their own. We have been looking closer at the structure of sentences finding the Subject (naming noun) and the verb in sentences as well as writing their own simple sentence.
·         Looking at explanation texts in more detail
Math
This week we looked at using number bonds to 10 and 20 to solve addition and subtraction sums. For example if I had 20 baht and wanted to buy a toy for 15 baht. I know that 15 + 5 = 20, so the change must be 5 baht.
·         Recognise and identify properties (including faces and vertices) of 3D shapes;
·         sort according to properties including number of faces;
·         name the 2D shapes of faces of 3D shapes;
·         tell the time to the nearest quarter on analogue and digital clocks
Inquiry
We moved onto the finding out phase of inquiry and the students enjoyed a forces hunt around school, looking to see where forces are in action. Students learnt about levers and pulleys and experimented with items in the classroom to create functioning levers and pulleys to help lift heavy things for easily. We also managed to do an experiment using cars and ramps while trying to conduct the experiment in a fair way.
·         We will continue to find out more and move onto sorting out what we have learned.
Notices and Events
·         Please can all parents send any recycled materials - boxes, bottles etc - this may come in handy when we begin to create and invent machines that use forces.
·         Sports Day January 24th
